5/9/2023 0 Comments The dark jewels trilogyThe thief who was bold enough to steal my ring from my chamber.” Sweet Mary she was staring up at him with eyes the color of a forest dawn. “You heard me speaking with the midwife.” She was a small thing, inches shorter than he, but she held herself erect and stiff, as if she were looking down on him with all the power of the barony. There was nothing he could do but slowly edge away from his hiding spot and stand before her in his muddy, blood-stained tunic. He dared open his eyes to stare straight into hers as she was standing before him, her face looming in the crack of the curtains. “Come here,” Gwynn ordered again and Trevin prayed there was a cat lurking in the shadows somewhere that she was calling. Her voice seemed to echo through the room. The ring would be his and he would leave Rhydd and his past far behind him. Now, if only the lady would lie on the bed and fall asleep, he could make good his leave. The large door creaked open only to close with a thud and the chamber was silent aside from the hiss and pop of the fire. Eyes squeezed shut Trevin counted out his heartbeats as he heard Idelle shuffle from the room. 5/9/2023 0 Comments Priest sierra simone wattpadHe is fluent in English, Spanish and French and has a working knowledge of Arabic and Greek. Superman, "the personification of a thrusting industrial tomorrow," had a primal impact. As Morrison sees it, "archetyped, pop-mythic tales of superpowered heroes and villains" soared into our collective imaginations in an explosive fashion. This excellent survey of pop deity origins begins with "the ur-god and his dark twin," Superman and Batman. A Scottish playwright and comic book writer, Morrison (Arkham Asylum) traces the rise of superheroes from the 1940s golden age to the comics industry of today. 5/9/2023 0 Comments Wayward Stars by Mary FanNelson’s album produced by Don Was found him surrounded by famous fans inevitably with such a project, it’s uneven. Honeysuckle Rose gave Nelson his first starring role in a feature film (playing a struggling country singer having an affair), but it’s this song that he wrote for the soundtrack – which encapsulates his desire to live life on a tour bus – that fans remember. His band (which featured his older sister Bobbie Nelson on piano until her death in 2022) provide beautiful accompaniment on a song that captures Willie’s Texas Zen spirit. Recovering from collapsed lungs, Nelson wrote the songs for Tougher Than Leather, his first album of original material in eight years. Nelson’s weathered baritone conveys a relatable heartache and he scored the biggest country hit single and album (of the same name) of 1982 while scooping several Grammy and Country Music Association awards. Listen to Nelson’s smash-hit version of Always on My Mind.Ī decade after Elvis scored with this bathetic ballad, Nelson took uber-producer Chips Moman’s advice and recorded it. * The fourth collaboration of the award-winning bestselling team of Boynton Moo Media and Loud Crow Interactive With nearly four million copies in print, Barnyard Dance! is listed among Publishers Weekly’s Bestselling Children Books of All Time. There are plenty of lessons to be learned from the best practices of expert educators. Game-Based Learning in Action details how the classrooms of expert game-based learning teachers function, from how they rollout games to how they assess learning outcomes. Farber shares his findings about the social practices of these educators. Teachers in "The Tribe" do not teach in isolation-they share, support, and mentor each other in a community of practice. They mentor and lead newcomers to game-based learning, as well as advise game developers, academics, and policymakers. They are transformational leaders outside the classroom, in communities of practice. How are expert educators using games in their classrooms to give students agency, while also teaching twenty-first century skills, like empathy, systems thinking, and design thinking? This question has motivated Matthew Farber’s Game-Based Learning in Action: How an Expert Affinity Group Teaches With Games showcasing how one affinity group of K12 educators-known as "The Tribe"-teaches with games. 5/8/2023 0 Comments Byzantium michael ennisThis long, densely detailed novel brings the Byzantine court of the Empress Zoe and those associated with her to life. Mostly set in Constantinople during the 11 th century, this novel is about Haraldr Sigurdarson, a dispossessed Viking prince who served as an imperial bodyguard. ‘The most famed of all Varangians was a young Norwegian prince called Haraldr Sigurdarson …’ Part of the appeal for me is the history of Byzantium, another part is the story of Haraldr Sigurdarson (better known to me as Harald Hardrada). And, at 700+ pages, it’s not a light undertaking. I’ve read this novel three times in the last twenty years or so. Novels that fit that category for me include this novel, ‘Byzantium’ by Michael Ennis. Authors who fit that category for me include Dorothy Dunnett, Emily Bronte and Lian Hearn. Even more occasionally, I find a novel (or a series) or an author that I know I want to reread. Occasionally, I fall in love with a novel. And the next thing you know, there's his friend Piggie, interrupting him. He lies down, all comfortable and sleepy. In this installment, Gerald the Elephant decides to take a nap (with his stuffed animal, a Knuffle Bunny). The latest Elephant & Piggie book is I Will Take a Nap!. The books are so fun that this is not at all boring for me as an adult reader (unlike some early reader series). These days she'll have me do most of the reading, but will chime in herself with the occasional word. Although they are meant for new readers to read themselves, my daughter and I frequently read them together. The Elephant & Piggie books are a fabulous and multiple Cybils Award-winning series of early readers. She loves, loves, loves the way that Willems gives his series characters cameos in other books. As in, "let's read a book by Mo Willems now". Willems was, in fact, the first author that my daughter could name. We are huge Mo Willems fans in my household, reading everything from the Knuffle Bunny books to the Pigeon books to Willems' standalone titles. Book: I Will Take a Nap! (Elephant & Piggie) |
